During a visit with an old friend (Lois Wheeler), unhappily married alcoholic Eloise (Susan Hayward) debates whether to grant her husband a divorce and ruefully recalls her prior romance with another man (Dana Andrews), which ended in tragedy and altered her life forever. Based on a story by reclusive novelist J.D. Salinger (&NFi;The Catcher in the Rye&NFi_;), this drama earned Oscar noms for Hayward as well as the title track, "My Foolish Heart."
